Scott Kelby’s -NAPP- Worldwide Photo Walk

August 23rd, 2008 – Tampa FL (Hyde Park Village)

Over 6,000 people from 43 countries (44 states in the U.S.) in 241 cities registered to participate in Scott Kelby’s the first-ever worldwide Photo Walk.  This event was organized to celebrate the release of Scott’s latest book Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 for digital photographers.  While Scott’s new book is certainly something by itself to celebrate, the immediate benefit from the walk was connecting people with similar interests and cultivating new friendships!

What an honor it was for Don and me to be participants in one of two Tampa Photo Walk events.  We consider ourselves to be so fortunate, as there were only 50 participants for each city location.  What further sweetened our particular walk was having Matt Kloskowski (of The Photoshop Guys) as our walk leader.

Our walk set off from Tampa’s Hyde Park Village at the corner of Swann and Rome.  The biggest question that morning was what the weather will bring.  If Tropical Storm Fay wasn’t on our lips, she was certainly on our minds!  The weather cooperated quite nicely all in all.  Although we faced a couple of brief sprinkles, it didn’t stop us from walking, socializing and shooting photos!  We did have “rain on our parade” of sorts, when the Hyde Park Village security team ascended upon us like SWAT.  Several of our group’s participants had harassing encounters with the local enforcement team.  As diligent photographers, we just moved to another location and kept on shooting!  Two hours went by so quickly!!!

What social event can end without a meeting of the minds over a meal?  Our group met at the Timpano Italian Chophouse which was right across the street from our starting location.  From the lively chatter and large volume of people that attended, it was pretty clear that everyone was having wonderful time! The food was fine but the camaraderie and new friendships that developed was the best!!!  Thank you Scott for orchrestrating such a grand event!!!

If you’d like to see some of the talented submissions from the Tampa – Hyde Park or any of the other Scott Kelby Photo Walks go to www.FLICKR.com.  You will need to be a registered user and obtain the walk leader’s permission to view the galleries.  I spent a bit of time recently pouring over the photographs.  There are without a doubt some amazing pieces of work to be viewed!  I’ve included a couple of my own submissions here along with this post that were among my favorites from what I personally shot.

Hyde Park Harley

This magestic bike captured my interest as it sat glistening brightly in the Florida sunshine. As it turns out I was to meet its owner before the walk was over!  Tim Wilder, aka HarleyPilot on FLICKR joined us at our table during lunch.  What a talented artist  with a respectable photographic history!!!  He generously shared some of his favorite Photoshop techniques and quickly jumped up to snap some group shots for us all.  Not only are we a better educated through Tim’s words, we’ve added a wonderful new friend to our circle!  Thank you Tim, you are amazing!!!

Old Hyde Park Village

Old Hyde Park Village

This is a shot of the Main Street in Old Hyde Park Village.  It reminded me of a modern day ghost town.  What’s amazing about this shot is the village was teaming with people, including those from our walk.  How I was able to shoot this without a someone walking into the shot was the trick! I can’t explain my eye…it makes me who I am… I just like this shot!

Thanks for taking the time to catch up on my recent adventures.  Until next time…..       Susan
